Event #13: Freezeout No-Limit Hold’em

Harvey Mathews defeated a high level field of 720 players to take home $371,914 and his first bracelet. Mathews humbly declared afterwards: “I just ran absolutely insane, probably the most insane I’ve run in my entire life.”

Michael Gathy was close to make history by getting to the top of the NL Hold’em bracelets rankings but ended up at the 3rd place for $164,083.

Event #14: Seven Card Stud

A second bracelet for Rafael Lebron in the $1,500 event, which said “I was hoping (to win a second bracelet). Didn’t expect it so soon though”. He won his first in 2016 in a $3,000 NL Hold’em event for $169,337.

The WSOP super reg Shaun Deeb was close again from the very top but succumbed at the 5th place for $18,475.

The $10k Event #16: Limit Hold’em Championship is star filled and currently lead by John Racener closely followed by Jason Somerville. 78 players took the start of the event.

WSOP 2021 Day 9 Digest

Event #9: Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship

The canadian pro Ari Engel won his second bracelet in the $10k championship, making his total live earnings up to more than $7M. His first bracelet was won in a $2,500 No Limit Hold’em event in 2019.

Phil Helmuth started day 3 with 6th stack but couldn’t do better than grabbing the 5th place for $80,894.

Event #11: Heads Up No-Limit Hold’em Championship

After 50 cashes at the WSOP, top pro Jason Koon finally took down his first bracelet in this specialist event. Jason won 6 straight heads-up to get the trophy and the $243,981. Koon declared before the final: “I don’t vlog, I don’t stream, I just play the game”, and apparently this was enough!

Event #12: Limit Hold’em

Israel’s Yuval Bronshtein just won his second bracelet by beating a 422 players field. Bronshtein is well versed in all variants of the game as he won a 2-7 Lowball Draw event and unfortunately bubbled the $25k H.O.R.S.E event a few days ago.

Other events

Most big names have fallen in the $3,000 event #13: Freezeout No-Limit Hold’em except Michael Gathy and his four NL Hold’em bracelets. He can make history tomorrow by joining Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson as the only players with five No-Limit Hold’em bracelets.

In the $1,500 Event #14: Seven Card Stud the final six are set and Shaun Deeb is currently second in chips. Shaun is looking for a 5th bracelet, his last being a $10k NL Hold’em in 2018.

WSOP 2021 Day 8 Digest

We’re now at 14 started events in this year’s World Series of Poker and one bracelet has been awarded yesterday.

Event #8: No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack

The $600 event attracted 4,527 players on Monday to end yesterday with the victory of Zhi Wu for $281,406. The win more than triples the player’s live earnings.

The $10k Event #9: Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship still counts Phil Hellmuth hoping to win a 16th bracelet but the player is now short stacked with 6 players remaining. The players will battle for $317,076.

The $25k Event #11: Heads Up No-Limit Hold’em Championship has reached the semi-finals. Jason Koon and Daniel Zack will respectively face Henri Puustinen and Gabor Szabo to try to win the $243,981 prize.

The $3,000 Event #13: Freezeout No-Limit Hold’em has attracted loads of top pros, notably Maria Konnikova (9th), Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier (18th), Sam Grafton (20th) and many more. From the original 720 entries, 111 players are still in contention.

Event #4: The Reunion No-Limit Hold’em

The 35 years old Long Ma outlasted a little field of 12,973 players to take home his first bracelet. This win is the american second cash at the WSOP, his first being a $1,751 prize in 2017, what an outburst!

Event #7: Dealers Choice 6-Handed

The $1,500 tournament crowned Jaswinder Lally for $97,915. The 58 years old declared after the win: “I learned a lot playing all these games. Some of these games I’ve never played like Badacey or Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo Regular.”, showing it’s still possible to win bracelets even in shark filled event!

Online Event #1: WSOP.com No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout

Martin “Bathroomline” Zamani won his second bracelet on WSOP.com (NV/NJ). Martin Zamani is no stranger to poker as he has more than $2.5M of live earnings, his largest score being a win in the $25k PCA High Roller in 2019 for $895,110. He notably defeated Jason Koon, finishing at the 6th place for $39k.

Event #10: Super Turbo Bounty No-Limit Hold’em (freezeout)

Michael Perrone took home the bracelet for $152,173 by defeating french pro Pierre Calamusa in this $1,000 buy-in event. The tournament counted 1,640 players for a total prizepool of $1,459,600.

Online Event #2: WSOP.com No-Limit Hold’em BIG 500

The online event ended when “nj_acesmarka” bested the 742 players field to cash $89,356. Close to the top were David “vincevegas” ODB Baker (14th, $3,985) and former main event champion Ryan “BitC0in” Riess (11th, $5,042).

The first of many WSOP high roller ended last night:

Tyler Cornell doubled his total live earnings by winning his first bracelet and the $833,289 prize. Despite claiming “I feel like I only got control of the table in the last hour” after the win, the player well managed his chip lead during the whole final table.

The massive $500 event #4: The Reunion No-Limit Hold’em and its 12,973 entries enters its final stage as 9 players remain. Poker pro Ryan Laplante closely missed this golden $513,604 opportunity and ended up at the 19th place for $18,117.

In the $1,500 event #7: Dealers Choice 6-Handed only 14 remain, and unfortunately many big names did not make the cut in the latest stage, including legendary WSOP commentator Norman Chad (21st), Eli Elezra (20th) and Phil Hellmuth (18th).
