Event #22: LADIES No-Limit Hold’em Championship

She wasn’t mentionned in our previous reports but Lara Eisenberg finally find a way for victory in the ladies event and the $115K prize, crushing her previous best live cashes.

Some words from the winner: “It’s an absolute dream come true,” Eisenberg said about her victory. “I came into this event hoping that maybe sometime I would make a final table, and to walk away winning it is an indescribable feeling. The event has been really amazing. It was so much fun. There was a lot of joking around and everyone was really supportive. It was all around just a fabulous event.”

Event #26: Freezeout No-Limit Holdem

After making his first WSOP cash in the $500 event #4, Dalibor Dula made it all the way to grab the $1,000 event #26 bracelet. The Czech Republic pro previous best performance was a single 5 figure live cash so the winner’s comment is no surprise: “It hasn’t set in for me yet. I think in a week or so I will feel happy, right now I just feel shocked.”.

Elsewhere in the Rio

Yesterday the pressure of the $5,000 event #25: 6-Handed No-Limit Hold’em crushed most headliners except for John Racener that will start the final table with the shortest stack. The remaining players will battle for the top $562K prize.

In the $1,500 event #27: H.O.R.S.E., Anthony Zinno is again in the spotlight as he took the lead. Now 18 players remains in an event that registered 594 entries.

It’s also worth noting that the $10K event #29: Short Deck No-Limit Hold’em has registered few entries but is loaded with top pros! Here a few of them still in contention: Chance Kornuth (5th), Jason Koon(7th), Joao Vieira (9th) and Stephen Chidwick (11th).

Daniel Lazrus held his ground firmly yesterday to capture this huge trophy and the $1M prize. The tournament total prizepool was $7M and 5,326 took the start.

Lazrus showed it’s still possible to “quickly” get successful in poker: “I only started playing about four and half years ago, at first just recreationally,” he said. “I started winning, met the right guy, who put me in touch with the other right guys, just learned. Starting like two years ago I started raising stakes and studying very very aggressively almost as a priority.”

Event #22: LADIES No-Limit Hold’em Championship

In the ladies event the final five has been set: Mikiyo Aoki still stands strong with the chip lead, closely followed by Debora Brooke. Women’s Poker Hall of Famer JJ Liu has the smallest stack but still has a chance to fight for the top $115K prize.

Event #23: Eight Game Mix 6-Handed

Ryan Leng is our winner in the $1,500 event for $137K. He hardly denied Connor Drinan – who was a 10-to-1 favorite in the heads-up – a second bracelet this year. Day 3 starting chip leader Ryan Hughes had a rough day and finished 6th for $19k.

Ryan Leng is now a 3 times bracelet holder but stayed humbled: “I definitely think the final table, the final two tables, I was certainly nowhere near the best player left in the field. I ran really hot.”

Event #24: Pot-Limit Omaha Deepstack (8-Handed)

Michael Prendergast made his biggest ever tournament score for $127K in a 1,572 players field. The recreational player said afterwards: “I don’t pay a lot of tournaments. […] I decided to just do what I did the entire tournament and wait for a hand that I could hit the nuts with” when talking about his late stage strategy, a winning move for the player who earned his first bracelet.

The player declared after the tournament:

“This is fun and reminds me more of playing poker as a kid where it was essentially Dealer’s Choice. All these different random games, we just played a bunch of different games.”

Anthony Zinno finally came on top of this very competitive final table and captured his third bracelet. The also three-time WPT champion recently crossed the $10M mark in total live earnings.

Anthony Zinno and the happy face

Zinno denied another chance for Phil Helmuth to win a 16th bracelet and later praised his game: “Hellmuth’s overall poker game is phenomenal. It’s so underrated by a lot of the poker community. They just don’t know what it’s like to sit and play, for example, short-handed mixed games with Hellmuth”.

A first bracelet for Dejuante Alexander in this $1,000 event allows him to bring back home a nice $180,665 check. Alexander is a regular at the WSOP as he already cashed 55 times for $1,215,216. He notably got second in the 2017 millionaire maker for $754,499.
