Event #36: Dealers Choice 6-Handed Championship

What an end to this championship event! The day started with Adam Friedman, second in chips, looking to win the championship for the third time in a row and Phil Hellmuth (5th), looking for his 17th bracelet and the second this year.

The two biggest stories at 10 left finally somehow collided in heads-up, with Hellmuth having at one point a 2-to-1 chip advantage, but Friedman succeeded in grinding back Hellmuth’s stack and finally ended up with all the chips.

Here are some words from the winner: “It’s really amazing. I didn’t expect this. I just wanted to have a shot to be able to do something that no one else has done in the 53-year history of the World Series and to do it in this event is pretty fantastic. Once people play the dealer’s choice, they always keep coming back.”

Lituanian Karolis Sereika was crowned the winner of $1,500 event, which counted 1,441 entries. Karolis Sereika impressively eliminated all but one player to win his first bracelet. The player only had 5 WSOP cashes until then so that’s a pretty big win for the player.

Sereika said in the interview: “This is the first live Lithuanian WSOP bracelet so that means a lot to me and all Lithuanian players, I’m very happy and very excited. Just so many emotions, I really wanted it with all my heart.”

In the huge $50k, Michael Addamo kept the lead in day 2 and now only 5 remains. The players will play for $1.1M, the biggest prize awarded since the start the series.

WSOP 2021 Day 21 Digest

Here are yesterday results:

#Buy-inEventPlayerPrize
30$1,500Event #30: MONSTER STACK No-Limit Hold’em (freezeout)🇺🇸 Michael Noori$610,347
34$1,500Event #34: Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw🇺🇸 David “Bakes” Baker$87,837
35$500Event #35: Freezeout No-Limit Holdem🇺🇸 Anthony Koutsos$167,272

Event #30: MONSTER STACK No-Limit Hold’em (freezeout)

Ryan Leng came super close from winning a second bracelet this year but finally fell in a quick heads-up match to let Michael Noori take the trophy. Noori is no stranger at the world series as he’s cashed 54 times since 2009 but his best performance until now was “only” a 4th place in 2016 for $74k.

Event #34: Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw

In the $1,500 event, David “Bakes” Baker won his third lifetime bracelet by defeating a 285 players field. David previous bracelets were more than 9 years ago: he won the $10k H.O.R.S.E. in 2012 and the $10k No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw in 2010, “Bakes” now totals more than $3M in live earnings.

It’s no surprise that the player felt happy but quite honest nonetheless: “It feels amazing. I wanted it real bad. I don’t know what I was doing heads-up those last few times.”

David “Bakes” Baker

Event #35: Freezeout No-Limit Holdem

The $500 event has attracted no less than 2,931 gamblers for a total prizepool of $1.2M. Anthony Koutsos, a real estate agent with until then a best live cash of $6k got in another dimension by grabbing a first bracelet and the $167k prize. That said, he stayed relatively jaded after the win: “the money doesn’t mean much, it was more about the competition and the drive to win.”

Anthony Koutsos

Event #36: Dealers Choice 6-Handed Championship

The $10k event has not ended yet but only 10 players still have a chance to win. Nearly all remaining players have millions in live earnings. Jake Schwartz and Adam Friedman comfortably lead the tournament with 3 times over the stack of Mike Gorodinsky (3rd). Friedman will attempt to make history by winning the tournament for a 3rd consecutive time so all eyes will be on him!

Next in chips is Daniel Negreanu, followed by Phil Hellmuth who continues his casual WSOP run, attempting to reach a 5th final table this year. Mike Matusow stands in the 6th place so everything is in place for fireworks when play will resume today!

Two times reigning champion Adam Friedman

Event #38: High Roller No-Limit Hold’em 8-Handed

The huge $50k high roller has started with one of the sharkiest field ever seen at the WSOP as most names there are very well known pros taking their chance. It’s difficult to say who has an edge in this field but giving his recent results Michael Addamo definitely looks like a favorite as he’s already taken the chip lead at 21 left.

See you tomorrow to see how these crazy events unfold!

What can we say? The poker brat never ceases to entertain the WSOP this year:

He finally did it! Starting second in chips at 10 left, Phil Hellmuth made it happen to reach his 16th bracelet, making him even harder to reach in the bracelet race.

“I’ve wanted a deuce-to-seven bracelet ever since the 1980’s because it was the coolest bracelet to win. It’s the one tournament that Chip, Doyle, and all the big named poker players showed up for.”

Phil tried to explain what happened the other days: “I’ve studied these games my whole life, so I have all the knowledge. What’s been killing me is that I get tired and I blow it. Or I get tilted and I blow it. I’ll be down here at the Rio and it’s one in the morning and I’m so tired. And I just play a bunch of bad hands and I’m out.”
